Autumn Capelin Survey 2025 Underway

グリーンランド東方海域で、アイスランドのMFRIとグリーンランドのGINRによる今年の秋のカペリン調査が進められています。この調査は1978年から続く長期プロジェクトで、今年は調査船TarajoqとÁrni Friðrikssonが参加し、合計7,850海里を航行する計画です。

調査の目的は、アイスランド・東グリーンランド・Jan Mayen海域におけるカペリン資源の成熟群と未成熟群の量を推定することです。2018年以降は生態系全体を対象とする調査へと拡大しており、プランクトンや外洋魚類、海洋環境の測定に加え、今年は鯨類観測員も配置されました。

調査結果は10月中旬に公表予定であり、2025-26年のカペリン漁期に向けた漁業勧告の基盤となります。

The autumn capelin survey is currently taking place in the waters east of Greenland, conducted jointly by Iceland’s Marine and Freshwater Research Institute (MFRI) and the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources (GINR). This long-term project has been carried out since 1978.

This year, the research vessels Tarajoq and Árni Friðriksson are participating, covering a total of 7,850 nautical miles. The survey aims to estimate the abundance of both immature and mature capelin stocks in the Iceland–East Greenland–Jan Mayen area. Since 2018, the project has expanded to an ecosystem-based approach, including sampling of plankton, pelagic fish species, and environmental conditions. This year, whale observers have also been added to strengthen ecological monitoring.

The survey results are expected to be available in mid-October and will form the basis of fishing advice for the 2025–26 capelin season.
