全ロシア漁業海洋学研究所（ВНИРО）が5月7日に公開した発表によると、サハリン西岸でカペリンの資源量が近年大きく回復し、2026年春には過去最高水準の漁獲が記録されました。

特に4月末の5日間では6千トンを超える水揚げがあり、サハリンのカペリン漁として史上最高記録になったとのことです。当初は沿岸水温の上昇が遅れた影響で漁獲が伸び悩みましたが、4月下旬になって魚群が一気に沿岸へ押し寄せました。

5月5日時点で、推奨漁獲量1万4400トンのうち、すでに1万1200トン以上が漁獲されています。一方で、急激な豊漁により、地元の加工業者や漁業会社は処理対応に追われる状況となったようです。

調査では産卵量も高水準を維持しており、魚体サイズも前年よりやや大型化しているとのことです。現在、西サハリン海域のカペリン資源は良好な状態にあると評価されています。

近年はBarents Seaでカペリン資源の減少と禁漁が続いているため、ロシア国内市場ではサハリン産カペリンの重要性が急速に高まっています。今後は、フェロー産カペリンの価格や流通にも影響を与える可能性がありそうです。

According to an announcement published on May 7 by the Russian Federal Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (ВНИРО), capelin stocks off the west coast of Sakhalin have recovered in recent years, and record-high catches were observed in spring 2026.

In particular, more than 6,000 tons were landed in just the last five days of April, marking the highest catch ever recorded for capelin in Sakhalin. Although fishing was slow at first due to delayed coastal warming, large schools moved inshore toward the end of the month.

As of May 5, over 11,200 tons had already been harvested out of the recommended 14,400 tons. The sudden surge in landings also put pressure on local fishing and processing companies.

Surveys show that spawning levels remain stable, and the average fish size is slightly larger than in previous years. Overall, capelin stocks in the West Sakhalin area are currently at a high level.

With declining stocks and fishing bans in the Barents Sea, Sakhalin capelin has become an increasingly important source for the Russian market. This strong catch may also affect the market and pricing of capelin from the Faroe Islands.
