2026年サバ調査の暫定結果公表　若齢魚に明るい兆し
Preliminary Results of the 2026 Mackerel Survey Show Positive Signs in Young Fish

ノルウェーのHavforskningsinstituttet（HI：海洋研究所）は8月27日、2026年6月29日から7月30日に実施された国際サバ・生態系調査（IESSNS）の暫定結果を公表した。

今回の調査では、2026年のサバの総バイオマスと総個体数が2025年をやや上回った。分布は前年とおおむね同様だったが、Nordsjøenでは過去数年より多くのサバが確認され、その中心は1～3歳の若齢魚だった。

『2歳魚が増加』

特に注目されたのが、ICESの資源評価で2024年級群の加入状況を示す指標となる2歳魚だ。

2歳魚の量は過去3年間をかなり上回り、2018～2026年の平均もやや上回った。HIは、これを若齢魚の資源への加入にとって「前向きな兆候」としている。

一方、高齢のサバについては依然として少ない状態が続いている。

『ニシンとブルーホワイティングも増加』

今回の調査ではニシンとブルーホワイティングについても調査が行われた。

ニシンの推定バイオマスは前年比約28％増加し、4～5歳魚が主体だった。

ブルーホワイティングも前年比約14％増加し、1～2歳魚が主体となった。HIは、両魚種とも若齢魚の資源への加入は良好とみている。

『2027年のサバ漁獲枠勧告は9月30日』

今回の調査結果は、ICESがサバの資源量を推定するために使用する複数のデータの一つとなる。

このほか標識放流データ、国際卵調査、漁獲データなども資源評価に使用されるため、今回の調査結果と最終的な資源評価が異なる可能性もある。

2027年のサバ漁獲枠勧告は、9月30日12時に公表される予定。

Norway’s Institute of Marine Research (HI) published the preliminary results of the 2026 International Ecosystem Summer Survey in the Nordic Seas (IESSNS) on August 27. The survey was conducted from June 29 to July 30, 2026.

The total biomass and abundance of mackerel recorded in 2026 were slightly higher than in 2025. While the geographical distribution was broadly similar to last year, more mackerel were observed in the North Sea than in recent years, mainly young fish aged 1–3 years.

『Increase in Two-Year-Old Mackerel』

One of the key findings was an increase in two-year-old mackerel, an important indicator used by ICES to assess recruitment of the 2024 year class.

The abundance of two-year-olds was considerably higher than during the previous three years and slightly above the 2018–2026 average. HI described this as “a positive sign” for the recruitment of young fish into the stock.

However, the abundance of older mackerel remained low.

『Herring and Blue Whiting Also Increased』

The survey also assessed herring and blue whiting.

The estimated herring biomass increased by around 28% compared with last year, with four- and five-year-old fish dominating the trawl catches.

Blue whiting abundance increased by around 14%, with one- and two-year-old fish dominating. According to HI, recruitment to both the blue whiting and Norwegian spring-spawning herring stocks appears to be good.

『2027 Mackerel Quota Advice to Be Published on September 30』

The results of this survey are one of several data sources used by ICES in its mackerel stock assessment.

Other sources include tagging data, estimates from the international egg survey and commercial catch data. Therefore, the survey results may differ from the final stock assessment.

ICES advice for the 2027 mackerel quota is scheduled to be published at 12:00 on September 30.
