アイスランド沖サバ調査：サバは低調、一方で大型カペリンを確認
Iceland Mackerel Survey Finds Few Mackerel but Large Capelin Attract Attention

アイスランド海洋淡水研究所（Hafrannsóknastofnun）が実施している2026年のサバ資源調査では、調査開始から約1週間が経過した時点でサバの確認数はごく少なく、現段階では資源状況を判断できる段階にはないと調査責任者がコメントしています。

一方で、Vestfirðir（西フィヨルド）沖やグリーンランド海峡（Grænlandssund）では、体長14～18cmの大型カペリンが確認されました。成熟個体と未成熟個体の両方が採集され、資源解析のため研究者へサンプルが送られています。

海洋淡水研究所では、9月に東グリーンランド海域でカペリン資源調査を予定しており、今回確認された大型カペリンとの関連も含め、今後の調査結果が注目されます。

また、Jan Mayen島南方ではニシンの群れも確認され、このほかランプフィッシュやサンドイールなどの生態データも収集されるなど、北大西洋の海洋資源全体の把握が進められています。

The 2026 Icelandic mackerel survey conducted by the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute (Hafrannsóknastofnun) has found very few mackerel during the first week of the cruise, and researchers say it is still too early to assess the status of the stock.

In contrast, large capelin measuring 14–18 cm were observed off the Westfjords and in the Greenland Strait (Grænlandssund). Both mature and immature fish were sampled and sent to specialists for further biological analysis.

The institute is planning a capelin survey in East Greenland in September, and the results will be important for evaluating the relationship between these fish and future capelin stock development.

The survey has also recorded schools of herring south of Jan Mayen, while biological data on other pelagic species, including lumpfish and sandeels, are being collected to improve understanding of the North Atlantic ecosystem.
