アイスランド船がSmuganでサバ漁、漁獲低調で30～50トンにとどまる
Mackerel Fishing Remains Slow in Smugan as Icelandic Vessels Search for Fish

Fiskifréttirの報道によると、アイスランドのまき網船Víkingur AK 100は、アイスランドEEZ内でのサバ探索が低調だったことから、8月7日以降Smuganで操業しているが、ここ数日は魚群が少なく、漁獲も低調となっている。同船のAlbert Sveinsson船長によると、1回の曳網当たりの漁獲量は30～50トン程度にとどまっており、700～800トンを確保して水揚げするには、よりまとまった漁獲が必要な状況である。

Víkingur AK 100はVenus RE、Svanur REと共同操業しており、後者2隻はすでにVopnafjörðurで水揚げ・冷凍加工を行っている。Smuganで漁獲されたサバの品質は良好とみられる一方、魚群は非常に不安定で、好漁となった後に短時間で姿を消すこともあるという。ロシア船からは「前年よりサバが多い」との情報も出ているが、Albert船長は、自身の操業海域では多くのサバを確認できていないとしている。

2026年のサバ漁獲枠は前年から大幅に削減されており、前年は6月に操業を開始していたVíkingur AK 100も、今年は8月まで出漁しなかった。前年はSmuganで8月末から9月初めまでサバ漁が続いており、今後魚群が再びまとまる可能性もあるが、現時点ではアイスランドEEZ内を含め、サバの分布を把握することが難しい状況が続いている。

According to Fiskifréttir, the Icelandic pelagic vessel Víkingur AK 100 has been fishing for mackerel in Smugan since August 7 after searches within Icelandic waters produced limited results. Fishing has remained slow in recent days, with skipper Albert Sveinsson reporting catches of only around 30–50 tonnes per haul. The vessel aims to land 700–800 tonnes, making stronger and more consistent fishing necessary to fill the vessel efficiently.

Víkingur AK 100 is operating together with Venus RE and Svanur RE, with the latter two vessels already delivering catches for landing and freezing in Vopnafjörður. According to Albert, the mackerel caught in the Smutthavet appears to be of good quality, but the fish are highly unpredictable and can disappear quickly after briefly providing good fishing. While Russian vessels have reportedly indicated that there is more mackerel in the area than last year, Albert said his vessel has not seen much fish so far.

Iceland’s mackerel quota was significantly reduced from last year. Víkingur AK 100 had already started its mackerel season in June last year, while this year the vessel did not leave Reykjavík until August. Mackerel fishing in the Smutthavet continued through the end of August and slightly into September last year, but the current distribution of the stock remains difficult to predict, including within Icelandic waters.
