カムチャツカで今季初のカペリン販売開始　価格は1kg400ルーブル
Capelin Season Begins in Kamchatka as First Catch Reaches RUB 400/kg

ロシア・カムチャツカ地方のペトロパブロフスク・カムチャツキー市場で、今季初のカペリンが1kgあたり400ルーブルで販売されていると報じられた。

カムチャツカ沿岸には複数のカペリン資源群が存在し、その中でも西カムチャツカ系群が最大とされる。カペリンは毎年5月末から6月初旬にかけて沿岸へ接岸し、産卵期に合わせて沿岸漁業で漁獲される。西海岸での漁期は通常5月末から7月初旬まで続く。

KamchatNIRO（カムチャツカ漁業海洋研究所）によると、西カムチャツカ系群には周期的な資源変動が見られ、一定期間は奇数年に豊漁、偶数年に不漁となる傾向があるという。2026年は偶数年にあたるため、今季は来遊量が少なくなる可能性が指摘されている。

カペリンが大量に接岸する年には、地元住民が地引網やタモ網などを使って漁獲するほか、浜辺に打ち上げられた魚を手で拾う光景も見られ、カムチャツカの初夏を象徴する風物詩の一つとなっている。

According to Fishery.ru, the first capelin of the 2026 season has appeared in markets in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Kamchatka, selling at RUB 400 per kilogram.

Several capelin stocks inhabit the waters around Kamchatka, with the West Kamchatka stock being the largest. Every year, capelin approach the coast from late May to early June for spawning and are harvested in coastal fisheries. The fishing season on the west coast generally continues until early July.

According to KamchatNIRO, the West Kamchatka capelin stock shows a cyclical pattern in abundance. During certain periods, odd-numbered years tend to have strong runs while even-numbered years have weaker runs, with the pattern later reversing. As 2026 is an even-numbered year, scientists believe capelin abundance may be relatively low this season.

In years of large capelin runs, local residents harvest the fish using beach seines, hand nets, and other simple gear. Some people even collect capelin by hand along the shoreline, making the arrival of capelin one of Kamchatka’s traditional signs of early summer.
